Our story

A house, not a factory.

Rutherford House Co. started with a simple belief: the things we use every day should raise the way we live.

What began as a small candle practice in our home became a study in atmosphere and ritual. We weren't interested in mass-produced fragrance. We wanted scents that feel grounded and quietly luxurious, the kind that belong beside a morning coffee, in a library at dusk, or at the end of a long, disciplined day.

Each collection is built around a purpose. Some help you focus. Some restore calm. Some mark the shift from work to rest. All of them are poured by hand, in small batches, by the two of us.

Craft & care

How each piece is made

Measured fragrance loads and tested wick pairings, so every candle burns clean and even from the first light to the last.

The candle6 oz tin

Wax: 100% soy container wax
Wick: Cotton, lead-free, paired to each fragrance after burn testing
Vessel: Brushed silver, gold or rose gold tin, reusable once finished
Burn time: About 30 to 35 hours
Melts: Coconut-soy blend, six pieces per clamshell

Burn careRead before lighting

On the first burn, let the melt pool reach the edge of the tin. This keeps the candle from tunneling.
Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before every light.
Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, on a flat, heat-safe surface away from drafts.
Stop when about ½ inch of wax remains, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
For melts, place one or two pieces in a warmer. Swap them out when the scent fades.

Before you order

Where do I check out?

Orders are placed through our Etsy shop. Etsy handles secure payment, order tracking and buyer protection, and accepts cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Klarna.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on every order. Each candle and melt set is packed by hand and ships in a protective box.

Can I order gifts or larger quantities?

Yes. Our gift sets ship ready to give. For party favors, corporate gifts or larger orders, send us a message on Etsy and we'll put something together.

Why do soy candles look frosted?

Natural soy wax can form a light white crystal layer called frosting. It's a sign of real soy and doesn't affect the scent or the burn.

What about returns?

Return and exchange eligibility is listed on each product page in our Etsy shop. If anything arrives damaged, message us and we'll make it right.
